FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Rezum treatment work?
Rezum uses the energy of steam: fine injections of steam are made into the adenoma under endoscopic guidance. The heat destroys the excess cells and the prostate gradually shrinks, allowing urine to pass through.
Does Rezum preserve ejaculation?
Yes, that’s one of its major advantages: ejaculation is preserved in approximately 95% of patients, unlike with traditional adenoma surgery. Erectile function is not affected.
What are the next steps after the session?
The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and takes about fifteen minutes. A urinary catheter is inserted for a few days until the swelling caused by the steam subsides. Transient irritation is common for 2 to 3 weeks.
When will the results appear?
Improvement begins around the second or third week and continues for three months as the prostate shrinks. Studies show a lasting result, maintained for more than five years in the vast majority of patients.
