A minimally invasive alternative to medication

REZUM is a minimally invasive technique that uses the natural energy of water vapor to reduce prostate volume

Traitement HBP par le Rezum

Introduction

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) affects more than half of men over 50 and can cause frequent urination, a weak stream, or interruptions. REZUM is a minimally invasive technique that uses the natural energy of steam to reduce prostate volume and provide lasting relief from urinary symptoms.

Without treatment , BPH can significantly impair quality of life and progress to complications (acute retention, infections, kidney failure).

Good news: REZUM offers an effective alternative to chronic drug treatments and more invasive surgeries.

What is REZUM treatment?

What is REZUM treatment?

The method consists of delivering, via a millimeter needle inserted endoscopically, micro-injections of water vapor at 103 °C directly into the prostatic lobes; the heat released selectively destroys the cells responsible for urinary obstruction.

In a few minutes, the steam condenses and releases its energy; the treated tissue is then naturally absorbed by the body in 2 to 6 weeks.

What disorders are treated?

REZUM is indicated in patients with:

  • A prostatic adenoma measuring 30 to 80 cm³;
  • Moderate to severe urinary symptoms (IPSS ≥ 13);
  • Poor tolerance or failure of medications (alpha-blockers, 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors);
  • The desire to avoid major surgery (TURP, laser, etc.).

Benefits

  • Minimally invasive procedure without external incision
  • Preservation of erectile function and ejaculation*
  • Outpatient procedure: return home the same day
  • Rapid recovery; resumption of activities within a few days
  • Sustained reduction in urinary symptoms (IPSS improvement > 50%)
  • Can be performed even in cases of mild anticoagulant treatment (Subject to anesthetic validation)

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a good candidate for Rezum?

Rezum is intended for men bothered by a small to medium-sized adenoma (approximately 30 to 80 ml) who wish to avoid long-term medication or surgery and preserve their ejaculation. A consultation confirms the suitability of the product.

Does Rezum replace prostate medications?

Yes, in most cases: after successful Rezum treatment, BPH medications can be stopped. This is one of the treatment goals for patients experiencing side effects (fatigue, sexual dysfunction, hypotension).

Is the treatment painful?

The procedure itself is performed under anesthesia (local, sedation, or short general anesthesia) and is not painful. In the following days, burning during urination and frequent urges to urinate are common and subside within 2 to 3 weeks.

What happens if the symptoms return years later?

The results of Rezum are long-lasting, with a low retreatment rate (approximately 4% at 5 years). If symptoms reappear, all options remain possible: another Rezum treatment, laser therapy, or another technique, without being compromised by the initial treatment.
